5000 Years of History in a Single Book
People who believe in family, identity, and resilience would agree that we cannot survive in this world without being connected to our roots. This book is a testament to experiencing the power of family roots while connecting through generations.
The Gill family’s story and name are rooted in a rich history that connects generations and cultural reflections. Their journey began near the ancient Caspian Sea, possibly in Central Asia or even Greece. From there, they travelled to Punjab in India and eventually settled in the UK, with family members now spread across the globe.
Where did the idea to write this book come from? You will definitely wonder where I got the idea for this book. A few years back, I delved into a box and found some interesting old photographs and documents. After discovering these precious belongings, I stepped towards exploring my family’s untold story. Every page of my book will make you believe the other side of migration—the triumphs of relocation.
One thing that this book will convey to you is the courage to start anew.

From Ancient Lands to Modern Shores
“The Tree of Immortality” is an immensely stimulating story that weaves together historical facts with creative imagination. To paint a picture of life across centuries, I preferred to give this book a more realistic touch while narrating, ‘Who were the Gills?’
The Gill lineage is based on a number of people, including farmers, priests, warriors, merchants, and migrants. Every person from this family possessed a diverse background based on the lands they inhabited. Each word I used in this book reflects the legacy of those who come before us while encouraging everyone to step back to their own roots.
The People Who Live Between Worlds – The Foreigners
We often meet people with diverse backgrounds, who travel all the way long from different lands and start living in a culturally different place. So, basically, we can say that migration is a universal story!
My people and I can best be described as foreign natives, as this term perfectly matches our identity. Nevertheless, I have also raised a question in my book—are we truly foreigners in lands where we’ve invested a major part of our lives while contributing for generations? My book significantly explores this concern while examining the concept of belonging and the unbreakable connection to our ancestry, irrespective of where we call home.
Celebrate Heritage and Identity with “The Tree of Immortality”
In this exquisite assortment of memories, we don’t just recount the past; it’s a delightful representation of celebrating the present. Through this memoir, my sole purpose is to teach a lesson on embracing your roots because this is the only way to forge a path for future generations.
Over the years, our cultural heritage has shaped our identities and made us who we are today. This book explores how our cultural heritage informs the legacy we leave behind.

We foreigners are everywhere. Who are we? Where are we? Where do we come from?

There will always be foreigners everywhere. Eventually, they give more back than they take. They are the future doctors, nurses, engineers, scientists, teachers, lawyers, professors, members of parliament, ministers and even Prime Ministers or Presidents.
